2-Day Short Inca Trail: The Express Trek
Walk in the footsteps of the Incas on this 2-day Short Inca Trail. This is the ideal option for travelers who want the experience of arriving at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate but do not have the time or desire for the full 4-day camping trek.
Operated by TrueAndes, this hike covers the most scenic last section of the trail. You will visit the spectacular ruins of Wiñay Wayna, see the citadel from above, spend the night in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes, and return for a full tour the next day.
Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Km 104 to Sun Gate
Train to Km 104. Hike uphill to Wiñay Wayna archaeological site. Continue to the Sun Gate for the classic view of Machu Picchu. Bus down to Aguas Calientes. Hotel overnight.
Day 2: Machu Picchu Tour
Breakfast. Bus up to the citadel. 2-hour guided tour exploring the main temples. Free time (if regulation permits) or return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Train back to Cusco.
