The journey

8-Day Classic Inca Trail & Cusco Immersion

This 8-day program is the definitive way to experience the Classic Inca Trail. TrueAndes combines the legendary 4-day trek with essential acclimatization days in Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

We don't just drop you on the trail; we prepare you. You will explore the imperial city and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo first. Then, you embark on the 4-day camping trek, supported by our team of porters and chefs, walking the original stone paths to enter Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate at sunrise. It is a complete, safe, and professionally managed expedition.

Questions before you go

Clear answers for planning this tour.

How early do I need to book the Inca Trail?

As early as possible! Permits go on sale in October for the following year and sell out months in advance. We recommend 6-8 months prior.

Do I have to carry my own tent?

No. Our team of porters carries the tents, food, and cooking gear. You only carry your daypack (water, camera, snacks).

What sleeping bag do I need?

It gets cold (below freezing). We recommend a 4-season sleeping bag rated to -10°C or -15°C. You can rent one from us.

Are there showers on the trail?

There are cold showers at some campsites, but most trekkers use a bowl of warm water provided by our staff for washing up.

What kind of food do we eat on the trek?

Our experienced trekking chefs prepare fresh and varied meals throughout the Inca Trail.”

Is the train back included?

Yes, the Expedition train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo is included, followed by a private bus to your hotel in Cusco.
