What decides whether you get a permit.
- 500
- people per day is the regulated capacity for routes 1, 2, 3 and 6, including travellers and support staff. Route 5 has a separate regulated capacity of 250 people per day.
- Nominal
- permits are issued for identified travellers through authorised operators. Our team will explain which identity details are required before requesting any sensitive information.
- Feb
- the Inca Trail closes every February for maintenance. Machu Picchu itself stays open, and the Salkantay route runs year-round.
- Early
- is the safest time to plan peak-season travel. Availability can change quickly, so treat every displayed status as provisional until it has been reconfirmed.
Picking the date is the easy part.
Choose a preferred day for the 4-day or 2-day trail and send us an enquiry. We first verify the date in the official system and then explain the traveller details required by the booking process.
The calendar does not reserve or sell a permit. A booking only moves forward after written confirmation of availability, itinerary, operator terms and the applicable payment schedule.
Dates sold out? The 2-day Short Inca Trail keeps its own regulated capacity, while the Salkantay trek does not use the same Inca Trail quota — both can still reach Machu Picchu on foot.

Can I buy an Inca Trail permit myself?
No. Access is arranged through authorised operators and issued for identified travellers; it cannot be bought as an anonymous, transferable ticket. Our team confirms the applicable process.
How accurate is this calendar?
It contains source-dated availability supplied by our licensed data provider. Spaces can change after synchronization, so we always reconfirm the requested date before payment.
What if my dates are sold out?
The 2-day Short Inca Trail (separate quota of 250/day) or the Salkantay trek — which does not use the same Inca Trail quota — are usual alternatives for reaching Machu Picchu on foot.
When should I book?
As early as practical for May–September. The trail closes every February and every requested date must still be reconfirmed.
