Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance do I need to book?

For the Inca Trail, we recommend booking 6 to 8 months in advance, especially for the high season (May-August), as permits are strictly limited (500/day).

What if permits are sold out?

If the Classic Inca Trail is sold out, we can switch you to the Salkantay Trek or the Lares Trek, which are stunning alternatives that do not require the same limited permit.

Do I carry my own gear?

We include a personal porter who carries up to 7kg of your belongings (sleeping bag, clothes). You only carry a daypack with water, rain gear, and camera.

Is the Inca Trail open all year?

It is open every month except February, when it closes for maintenance. The best months are April through October (dry season).

What are the toilets like on the trail?

Toilets are basic squat-style latrines maintained by the park. However, TrueAndes provides a private portable toilet tent at our lunch stops and campsites for your comfort.

Can I shower during the trek?

Showers are available at some campsites (cold) and at Wiñay Wayna (sometimes hot for a fee), but most hikers wait until the hotel in Aguas Calientes on Day 7.
