Departure

How high is Puno?
Puno is at 3,800m (12,500ft), which is higher than Cusco. Acclimatization is key.
What is the homestay like?
It is basic but authentic. You stay in a spare room of a local family's house. There is no heating, but plenty of blankets.
Is there hot water in Puno?
Yes, in your Puno hotel. The island homestay may not have hot showers.
Are the boats safe?
Yes, we use modern, enclosed tourist boats with life jackets.
Is the lake cold?
Yes, it is very cold at night. Bring a warm jacket, beanie, and gloves.
Is the bus ride to Puno boring?
No, it is a guided tour stopping at 4 archaeological sites and a buffet lunch, making the trip very enjoyable.
