Questions before you go
Clear answers for planning this tour.
Is 6 days enough to explore Cusco and Machu Picchu?
Yes. This private 6-day journey covers the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain and Cusco at a comfortable pace. The route starts in the Sacred Valley, which sits lower than Cusco, so you can acclimatize naturally before the higher-altitude activities.
Are hotels included in the tour price?
Yes. The US$4,200 per person price includes 5 nights in 5-star hotels: 2 nights at Tambo del Inka (Sacred Valley), 1 night at Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel (Aguas Calientes) and 2 nights at JW Marriott El Convento (Cusco). Upgrades to Belmond Monasterio or Belmond Palacio Nazarenas are available at an additional cost.
What should I know about altitude sickness?
Cusco is located at about 3,400 m (11,155 ft), while the Sacred Valley is lower, at about 2,870 m (9,420 ft). That's why this journey begins in the Sacred Valley, giving your body time to adjust gently. Rainbow Mountain reaches 5,036 m (16,522 ft) and is scheduled for Day 5, once you are well acclimatized. We recommend staying hydrated and resting on arrival. Travelers with medical concerns should consult their doctor before traveling.
Is the Rainbow Mountain hike difficult?
The hike is moderate to challenging, mainly because of the high altitude. It is done at your own pace with a private guide and private transportation from Cusco. ATVs and quad bikes are not part of the itinerary, but horses can be rented on site for an additional cost.
Are domestic flights included in the tour price?
Yes. Round-trip domestic flights Lima–Cusco–Lima are included, along with private airport transfers in Cusco. International flights to and from Peru are not included.
Are meals included during the tour?
Daily breakfast at your hotels, dinner at Tambo del Inka on Day 1, lunch at El Huacatay restaurant on Day 2, dinner at Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel on Day 3, lunch at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge on Day 4, and breakfast and lunch during the Rainbow Mountain excursion on Day 5. Dietary needs, such as vegetarian or gluten-free, can be arranged in advance.
Is the Machu Picchu entrance ticket included?
Yes. Your official Machu Picchu entrance ticket, round-trip shuttle bus and private guide are included. Tickets are subject to availability, so we recommend booking as early as possible. Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain can be added as an option.
Which trains are included?
You travel from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes on the Vistadome train and return on the Vistadome Observatory train, which features an open-air observation car. Your private vehicle will then take you to Cusco.
Is this a private tour?
Yes. This is a fully private journey operated directly by TrueAndes, with no groups. It includes private transportation, a private English-speaking guide for every tour, and 24/7 assistance from our team throughout your trip.
How much is the deposit to confirm my booking?
A 50% deposit is required to confirm your reservation. The remaining 50% is paid upon arrival in Cusco, before the tour begins. All reservations are subject to the availability of Machu Picchu tickets, hotels, trains and domestic flights. Your booking is confirmed once TrueAndes issues the final confirmation.
