Questions before you go

Clear answers for planning this tour.

How cold does it get on the Salkantay Trek?

Near the Salkantay Pass, temperatures can drop below freezing at night, especially in the dry season. Our domes are designed for comfort, but warm layers and a suitable sleeping bag are strongly recommended.

Do I have to carry my own heavy backpack?

No. You only carry a daypack with your essentials. Our horses transport your luggage, and our team carries all camp equipment.

Are there showers on the trek?

Yes. Our luxury camp includes a private hot shower, and the lodge in Santa Teresa has full bathrooms.

What happens if I get altitude sickness during the trek?

Two nights in the Sacred Valley help you acclimatize before the trek. Our guides watch for symptoms, carry first aid equipment and emergency oxygen, and follow safety and evacuation procedures if needed.

Is water provided?

Yes. Safe drinking water is provided throughout the trek. Please bring a reusable water bottle or hydration system.

Can I charge my phone/camera?

Yes. Our domes have solar charging stations, and the lodge and hotels have full electricity. A power bank is still recommended.

Do I need a sleeping bag?

Yes, for the dome nights. A sleeping bag is not included, but you can bring your own or rent a high-quality -15°C sleeping bag from TrueAndes.

How do I pay for my tour?

To confirm your booking, a 50% deposit is required. This deposit lets us secure all reservations in advance, including hotels, glamping domes, trains, flights and Machu Picchu entrance tickets. The remaining 50% is paid directly in Cusco on arrival, before your tour begins.
