Frequently Asked Questions

Is Choquequirao harder than Inca Trail?

Yes, much harder physically. It is lower altitude but the vertical gain/loss is immense and the heat is intense.

Are there showers?

Basic cold showers are available at some campsites (Chiquisca), but don't count on them.

Can I see Machu Picchu on this trek?

No, this trek visits Choquequirao only. You can combine them in an 8-day trek if you wish.

Do I need poles?

Absolutely essential. Your knees will thank you on the steep canyon switchbacks.

Is it crowded?

Not at all. You might be one of the only groups camping there.

What about the sun?

The sun is very strong in the canyon. Bring a wide-brimmed hat and plenty of sunscreen.
