4-Day Choquequirao Trek: The Last Refuge
Discover the “Other Machu Picchu” on this 4-day trek to Choquequirao. TrueAndes takes you to this spectacular, isolated Inca city perched high above the Apurímac River. Accessible only by foot, it remains an authentic and peaceful experience.
This trek is a physical challenge that rewards you with incredible canyon views, condor sightings, and the chance to explore a massive archaeological complex that is still partially covered by jungle. We provide full logistical support, including mules and chefs, so you can focus on the trail.
Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Into the Canyon
Drive to Cachora. Hike down to Chiquisqa or Santa Rosa camp. Warm weather and canyon views.
Day 2: The Climb to Choquequirao
Cross the Apurímac River and make the steep ascent to Marampata. Camp near the archaeological site.
Day 3: Exploring & Returning
Morning tour of Choquequirao’s main sectors. In the afternoon, begin the descent back to Chiquisqa camp.
Day 4: The Final Ascent
Climb back up the canyon wall to Capuliyoc. Private transport waiting to take you back to Cusco.

Travel Information & Policies
Terrain
Steepness: The trail involves a descent of 1,500m into the canyon and an ascent of 1,500m on the other side. Trekking poles are highly recommended to protect your knees.
Insects
Sandflies: The Apurímac Canyon is known for biting sandflies. Long pants, long sleeves, and strong repellent are essential.
Water
Hydration: It gets very hot in the canyon. We provide boiled water, but please bring a 2-3 liter capacity hydration bladder.
